Y is for YOU: Talk to me, peeps!

If my blog looks a little crazy lately, it's because I'm in the midst of a re-design, with tabs and everything. :p  Which brings me to today's blog... what do you like, or would like, seeing on my blog? What are your favorite (and least favorite -- you won't hurt my feelings!) posts?

Sometimes I wonder if excerpts are exciting (although I love reading others' excerpts, so I'm biased on this one).  Is it helpful, or interesting, to read about my writing journey? Do you all like book reviews? Is it skippable when I get personal, talking about my foster cats and my bad haircuts, or is it a nice break from the book talk? Like all writing, this blog is something I do for me -- but it's something I do for you guys, too.  I'd love to know what you like!

So if you don't mind, tell me what you think about my blog and what you'd like to see here!

And also on a you note, I'm not the best at getting around to everyone's blogs -- try as I might -- so I'm making it a goal from tonight through this weekend to get around to every follower's blog and say hi. Since school is out, I expect to be a better commenter, I promise! (Now if only I could get to Blogger while I'm at work... silly firewalls).

Hi!

I'm very new to your blog but I love what I've read so far! All of it!

I must admit to really liking that
"what hairstyle shall I get" survey!! That was so much fun!

Sorry, I'm not helping much - all I know is that I'm enjoying your blog as it is and look forward to your new design and whatever content you wish to have on it!

:-)

Take care
x

Aw, thanks Old Kitty! I'm glad you liked the hairstyle survey. Sometimes I'm quite tempted to write more personal stuff like that, but I'm not sure if it will turn people off if I don't have 98% writing content, you know? So it's good to hear. I'm glad I found your blog and I very much appreciate your comments! :)

Visiting blogs is tough!!! I can feel that for sure!!!

I personally love your excerpts, I'm also a fan of just little daily things you do to keep me knowing a few things about you!

I don't even know what I'm going to do after the A-Z challenge so I'm going to have to rack my brain as well!!

From someone whose blog is 98% personal content...I like it! I like you, so I like knowing more about you. Honestly, it seems like every joe schmore blogger talks about writing and gives metaphors and blah blah, and sometimes I just don't want to read it, you know? I know what writing's like. I do it.

That being said, I do love your excerpts. And I love kittens. :-)

Jen, I'm impressed by how many blogs you manage to keep up with! I don't know what I'm going to do post A-Z challenge, either, it's been tough at times but so much fun. I liked feeling that I could write about any random thing I thought of as long as it began with the right letter.

Aw, thanks Summer! I like the personal content on your blog, too -- it's really interesting (and your garden is so gorgeous!).

I, also enjoyed the hair style survey and piped in! I love book reviews/excerpts. I like you sharing your writing and what inspires you!

Guinevere, I think your blog has a lovely balance. Reading excerpts non-stop sounds great but, in truth, might be a bit tedious. It's good, I think, to have variety, like you have, and also good to get to know more about the blogger. So, I kinda think it it ain't broke don't fix it. (And I truly understand about hopping around to comment. I try to stay on top of what's going on but with spring being so busy with relative coming and going, I'm a bit behind. Sorry!)

I love the personal. I'm glad when someone has posted their actual photograph rather than some strange icon that probably is a metaphor for something about them. But I like to see faces. It's difficult enough to remember everyone you're trying to connect with through blogs. So do be personal. And continue to write about your writing journey. I like to read excerpts. Am neutral about book reviews. BTW, I'm also rethinking where I'm going with my blog. Most of the blogs I've found are so incredibly creative and colorful. I get ideas from them. So do it...!!! I'll be back to see how it's going.

Your blog is cheerful and lovely.

I think a variety of subjects is interesting. A review of a book that you really found intriguing one post. An excerpt in another. A commentary of your journey in another.

Or a little bit of all three when you think it feels right. I've only been blogging two months so I am hardly an expert.

May your weekend be happier than you expect, Roland

Man, I can't wait for school to be out. Then I might actually have my head on straight again.

Maybe.

I enjoy your blog- no suggestions from the peanut gallery here!

The way I see it, a blog is like a two volume novel or short story collection: it has many elements, it is miscellaneous, and it should be so! No suggestions will ever work! As you have seen already, there are some who read you for one column in particular, some enjoy this to and fro on a landscape teaming with ideas. What I am trying to say is that you should simply write what you like, for you readers will enjoy it (that is the reason for which they chose to follow your blog, they liked what they saw - and, leaving the impersonal 'they' aside, it should be obvious that they 'they' means 'I'...).

All the best!

P.S. Just so you know that I mean it, and just you you know that I shall be aware of your every article the moment I visit my own little virtual paper, I might have put 'This Is Not My Day Job' (by the by, the title is great! :)) ) on the wall so that anyone gets a chance at finding you (and, again, the multilayer nature of you blog is worth being retained!)

Excerpts must stay...me likey! I am new here but you always have some really interesting things to say. So whatever your new design brings I'm down...

I don't really have any suggestions...Sorry I just like popping over and having a good read.

Hey! This is where I found the Snow White mac cover: http://www.etsy.com/category/geekery/computer/accessories

I think you have to hunt them down through the pages. The direct link I was going to give you has expired because someone already bought it!

I'm new to your blog but so far I like everything! Can't wait to see your new look, though.

I like variety.

I think mixing it up is a good thing. Of course I love when people share some of their writing, but I also like to know more about them as a person. (Including fun photos ;)

It is hard to visit all blogs you follow or that follow you, I know! I follow over 300 and try hard to go to them all but I know I end up missing a bunch!
