Wednesday (Erm, Thursday) Weekly

I haven't done this in a while...

The Goddess of Vengeance Wore Pink Galoshes...12,685 words.

I should be really productive with The Goddess this weekend, as I'm in Georgia for the month (boo!) and don't have MJ to entertain me. That's not a boo for Georgia, just a boo for being away from home for so long. On the positive side, I figure this month can be like my very own NaNo.

Of course, when I travel I read a lot, and this was a great week for that! I finished Birthright by A. Roger Ekrich (very interesting history of a boy born in Ireland to nobility, then transported to America by his usurping uncle when his father died, who ultimately inspired Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped). And in the novel domain, I finally finished Nation by Terry Pratchett (the book had unfortunately been lost in my gym bag for a few days... shh... don't tell the library that it may smell slightly of gym now). On the plane and yesterday, I read Ayelet Waldman's Love and Other Impossible Pursuits (great fiction) and Caro Peacock's A Dangerous Affair (a mystery set in Victorian England).

Not to sound like a complete cheerleader, but I loved all these books. I'm going to have to make a bookstore trip this weekend, though... I expect to end up with some down time at work (interminably boring, attendance mandatory... my favorite).  I've been working my way through all the recommendations I had last time, and I think I've hit them all now... Sookie Stackhouse, Hex Hall, Nation, etc... so tell me. What are you guys reading? And what should I be reading?

How's the writing going for you guys, too?

What a lot of great books you've been reading. Reading is an excellent incentive for writing.

As for writing, your challenge got me going, and I should have my memoir finished in a few weeks. That's because I already had two-thirds of it in various earlier drafts. Spent all day yesterday, in between taking care of my daughter, on it. Hooray! Thanks for the challenge. It worked for me.

Wow sounds like some awesome books you've been reading! Great for spring/summer time! I truly enjoyed Hex Hall!!! It was fantastic!

I'm waiting for my copy of Eat,Pray,Love in the mail, I also have The Forest of Hands and Teeth and Dead Tossed Waves headed my way! I'm very excited!

Writing has been still lately... luckily I was able push through and viola I had a ton of inspiration last night! Yipee!

Hey, did I see that you're in Augusta? Too bad--crappy city. :-) It's about 3 hours away from me.

I'm reading A Place to Come To by Robert Penn Warren, as well as a few free ebooks on my Kindle.

I am rereading Poison Study by Maria Snyder right now. I read it a few years ago, but sometimes you just want to hang out with an old friend, you know?

And Uglies by Scott Westerfield is next on my list :)

Oh my goodness - you went through so many books - well done you!!

(and I promise to keep quiet about the gym infused Terry Pratchett book!LOL!).

Good luck with the Goddess - looks like you're really progressing nicely with it - yay!

I'm reading Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel - and I'm really enjoying that.

Take care

LOL, I just finished Hex Hall and the third Sookie book, so I have a long way to go on that front. Liked Hex Hall a lot more than I thought I would.

I'm going to recommend Gail Carriger's Soulless. I read that several months ago and enjoyed it immensely.

Try to keep cool in Georgia!

Ann, I'm glad your memoir is going so well! Keep it up and good luck. :) On the subject of reading... it looks like I'm going to have lots of down time to read this week and next at work. I actually just went a little crazy at Books-A-Million...

Jen, I LOVED Hex Hall. Thanks so much for that rec - I loved the voice and humor! The Forest of Hands and Teeth is high on my list to read too.

Summer, I am in Augusta -- it doesn't seem very exciting. lol.

Lynn, I know what you mean - I love to re-read my favorite books. Even the books from my childhood; they really are old friends.

Thanks, Old Kitty! I might have to check out Wolf Hall - sounds interesting!

Tere, I already read Soulless, but I absolutely loved it! I read Changeless too - can't wait for the sequel!

Thanks, Shannon! I'm loving doing the 100+ book challenge; I never realized how much I read (and I think it's been encouraging me to read more).

I just finished the latest draft of my novel, so now I have to go back and revise it. But I'm tempted to start some new stories, because I've been jotting down new ideas. Part of me thinks I should stick to one story at a time, but I'm not willing to wait that long...:)

Borders has a great kid's challenge going on right now. 10 books in the summer and if they complete it they get a free book of their choice. Since the munchkins got out of school on Wednesday we made our first official trip to the bookstore. Cloudya purchased Camp Confidental and Kaiden got Dr. Seuss' A to Z.
