Just A Little Bit Of Crazy For 2011

I'm just doing two challenges this year, in keeping with my resolution to simplify (I still hate you, Thoreau, even if I sometimes take your advice).

The writing challenge: Write 1, Sub 1. For short fiction writers, this is such a fun idea.  You write a short story and submit a short story to a journal or 'zine every week (or every month, if you go for the lite version).

Why yes, it is a little nuts. But so far, I've written two stories and sent out half-a-dozen, and I'm excited to see what the rest of the year brings - it's cool to think that at the end of '11, I'll have over 50 new stories written and 50 (let's just say it) rejections or acceptances.

It's not too late to join up - I'd love to know if anyone else is doing W1S1!

The reading challenge: 2011 Debut Authors.  As much as I love to read, this challenge is special in particular. I love the idea of supporting debut authors - and discovering new authors that I'll continue to read.

And, in other news, I'm going to run another marathon this year. To help counterbalance all that time I spend sitting at my computer, banging at the keys, creating stories and eating M&Ms.

What crazy (awesome) things are y'all up to in 2011?

Whoa. You're so ambitious - I love it!

I don't think I'm doing anything exceptionally crazy, but I'm aiming for 20 books read by 2012 and three novels written.

Good luck!

You've helped motivate me! I've signed up to submit one story per month! And a marathon! That is ambitious. I look forward to reading about all your successes.

Oh, good luck! Write 1, Sub 1 sounds great, but I just realised this morning how crazy my schedule is and I really don't think adding to it will help!

Also, I realise I haven't responded to your second email yet, I will do!

That's a lot of short stories! Good luck with both your challenges, don't forget to keep yourself inspired if you're going to be pulling all those words out of you!

How industrious of you! Good luck with all that!!! No, I won't be doing the W1S1; I'm valiantly trying to finish my YA novel I started last June...

Oh wow, what awesome challenges!!

I'm doing two this year... one is to write every day, and if I don't I owe a dollar to my charity of choice (First Book!) for every day I don't write. MAN, that'll get me writing for sure... or else I'll go broke :)

My other challenge is a picture book dummy challenge... hard stuff! But HURRAY for writing/reading challenges!! Good luck to you!

I want to write two novels this year... first drafts only. That's sort of nuts with my schedule, but I like to make big plans.

I have awarded you something here:

I love this, especially the first challenge. I haven't set any writing challenges for myself yet, but I've been thinking about it. You've inspired me to be a bit more ambitious.

I kept thinking "But I have so many projects!" I don't see how I can't meet one challenge with each of my projects monthly. I can handle that. I just need to get on that now before I run out of January!
